A fast-growing SaaS software company based in Berlin is looking for an experienced Head of AI to lead the company’s end-to-end AI transformation. This role will define how artificial intelligence is embedded across products, platforms, and internal operations as the business scales.
This is a senior, hands-on leadership position for someone who can combine strategic vision with deep technical expertise, building AI capability from the ground up.
The Role
As Head of AI, you will own the AI roadmap across the organisation, from foundational infrastructure and model strategy through to real-world product and operational use cases. You will work closely with Engineering, Product, and Executive leadership to turn AI from experimentation into a core competitive advantage.
Key Responsibilities

Define and execute the company’s AI strategy and roadmap across product and internal systems

Lead the design, development, and deployment of AI/ML systems, including LLM-based solutions

Build and manage the full AI stack: data pipelines, model training, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring

Set up, fine-tune, and operate LLMs from scratch, including open-source and proprietary models

Architect AI systems across multiple cloud providers (e.g. AWS, GCP, Azure), balancing performance, cost, and scalability

Establish governance around model performance, security, compliance, and responsible AI

Hire and mentor AI/ML engineers and data scientists as the function grows

Partner with Product and Engineering to integrate AI capabilities into customer-facing products

Stay ahead of emerging AI technologies and assess build vs buy decisions
What We’re Looking For

Proven experience leading AI or ML initiatives in a SaaS or product-led technology company

Strong hands-on experience with LLMs, including training, fine-tuning, and deployment

Experience working across multiple cloud platforms and modern MLOps practices

Deep understanding of data infrastructure, model lifecycle management, and production AI systems

Ability to operate at both strategic and implementation levels

Strong communication skills and experience influencing senior stakeholders
