Freelance DevOps Engineer

Contract: 6 months initially (with possible extension)
Start date: ASAP
Location: Remote (occasional on-site work, ~1 day/month in Frankfurt or Berlin)
Eligibility: Must have the right to work as a freelancer in the EU

About the Role

We are seeking a DevOps Engineer to join a distributed engineering team supporting the design, implementation, and optimisation of modern development and deployment pipelines. The ideal contractor will bring hands-on experience with DevOps tooling and practices, a strong technical background, and a collaborative mindset to help streamline software delivery processes.

Key Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines and related automation workflows

Manage and optimise artifact/image registries and associated DevOps infrastructure

Translate high-level architectural concepts into secure, scalable, and maintainable solutions

Collaborate within Agile (Scrum) teams, participating in sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives

Support engineering processes and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives

Must-Have Experience

Proven background in Software or DevOps Engineering, delivering and maintaining technical solutions in production environments

Strong hands-on experience with CI/CD platforms and artifact management tools, such as:
Git, Jenkins, GitLab CI, ArgoCD, Artifactory, Nexus

Proficiency in at least one automation or infrastructure programming language, such as:
Python, Go, Java, Bash, PowerShell

Demonstrated ability to design and implement secure, scalable, and robust systems

Experience working in Agile (Scrum) environments and contributing to engineering processes

Must-Have Language Skills

Fluent English (written and spoken, minimum B2 level)

Preferred Experience

Involvement in the architecture and design of internal platforms or developer tooling

Familiarity with containerization (e.g. Docker) and orchestration (e.g. Kubernetes, OpenShift)

Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or Ansible

Contract Details

Duration: 6 months initially

Engagement: Freelance / B2B

Location: Remote (with monthly on-site collaboration in Frankfurt or Berlin)

Availability: Immediate start preferred
