You’ll join an international engineering team building products and services with real-world impact, with a strong focus on modern technology, collaboration and technical excellence.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer to lead significant platform and product integration initiatives.

This is a highly technical, hands-on role where you’ll shape architecture, drive cross-team technical decisions and raise engineering standards. You’ll also play a key role in advancing AI-assisted engineering practices and helping other engineers get the most from modern AI development tools.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead the design and implementation of major platform and product integration initiatives
  • Drive technical direction and contribute to the engineering roadmap
  • Write and sponsor design documents and lead meaningful technical reviews
  • Set high standards for code quality, architecture and engineering practices
  • Mentor and influence senior engineers across the wider organisation
  • Design and operate distributed, event-driven systems
  • Apply patterns including CQRS, event sourcing and API gateways where appropriate
  • Use strong architectural judgement to keep solutions pragmatic and avoid unnecessary complexity
  • Identify database, performance and migration risks before they reach production
  • Deliver production-ready, observable and maintainable code
  • Lead substantive code reviews and identify genuine technical and design risks
  • Drive complex, multi-team technical projects from design through to delivery
  • Champion AI-assisted engineering and help build this capability across the team

What They’re Looking For

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Clear evidence of operating at Staff Engineer level with cross-team technical impact
  • Strong experience leading significant platform-level technical work
  • Strong JVM background, particularly Java and Kotlin
  • Experience with Go or Node.js is beneficial
  • Hands-on full-stack experience with modern frontend frameworks such as React or Angular
  • Deep experience building and operating event-driven systems
  • Strong production experience with Kafka
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, including idempotency, delivery guarantees, backpressure, partitioning and schema evolution
  • Experience with CQRS and event sourcing, with the judgement to know when not to use them
  • Experience with API gateway technologies and patterns
  • Strong database knowledge across PostgreSQL and non-relational data stores
  • Experience with data modelling, query performance and database migrations under load
  • Proven ability to lead complex, multi-team technical initiatives
  • Strong experience using AI coding tools as part of your daily engineering workflow
  • Comfortable with Docker and Kubernetes
  • Cloud experience, ideally Azure
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Flink or other stream-processing technologies
  • Experience with Go or Node.js
  • Azure experience
  • German language skills
  • Experience with AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or similar platforms

Why Join?

  • Work at the intersection of scale-up innovation and major enterprise backing
  • Take ownership of significant platform-level technical challenges
  • Have real influence over architecture and engineering standards
  • Help shape how AI-assisted engineering is adopted across the organisation
  • Work with an international, collaborative engineering team
  • Personal development budget to support your growth
  • Monthly mobility budget
  • Subsidised gym membership and office lunch
  • Up to 2 days working from home per week
  • Regular offsites and team events
  • Modern offices in Berlin and Munich
  • Open, inclusive and collaborative culture
