How To Improve Wellbeing In The Workplace

Wellbeing is a topic that is starting to be discussed at the top table and it is becoming more crucial for employers to take into account their employees wellbeing as part of the employee experience.

All organisations want to have a great culture, but how can you strategically get employees to work more efficiently, boost their motivation and ultimately lessen the risk of resignation. Feeling good in the workplace is as important as feeling good at home: the time spent at work in a year is considerable, with it being in excess of 1,700 hours for an average employee. Your work life is dependant on your physical, psychological and social aspects and therefore your company should be a healthy place to work, where employees are able to balance their working and professional lives.

All companies will have their own plans as to how to improve employee wellbeing in the workplace, here are a few:

– If you don’t really know how your employees feel at work, conduct regular satisfaction surveys to understand their needs and improve their everyday life work.

– Employee engagement must be deeply handled by implementing strategies in the Operations team, such as a collaboration between HR and Marketing departments to work on new incentives, for example.

– Your office should align with your values and vision. The company culture and brand values must be in every employee’s mind to deliver a genuine service/product.

– The office design is also an important factor of wellbeing. Millennials tend to enjoy creative, innovative or inclusive working environments. This generation now represents a big part of the working population.

– According to Harvard Business Review, the #1 office perk is natural light, which has an impact on employee’s tiredness. Daylight is well appreciated, especially in winter when the days become shorter and shorter.

– Flexible working is one of the reasons why employees choose to work for a company: allow people to do their job from home or to leave earlier for family commitments, for example.

– Introducing relaxing areas can motivate employees to have a break in the day or to be more inspired/creative in their tasks.

– Allowing a “dog office day” can make employees feel more relaxed or amused by something new or different.

Although dismissal is the highest employee concern, they end goal of work and retirement is also a factor for anxiety. For example, a change in work responsibilities, being in trouble with managers or director or a bad financial situation can all lead to different behaviours and a reduced performance. This is where mental health has an impact and why every employer should care about it. The implication of every member of the company is needed to contribute to a general culture in the workplace.
