Staff Backend Engineer (Financial Systems)

We’re partnering with a high-growth, product-led SaaS platform to hire a Staff Backend Engineer to lead the build of a next-generation financial systems platform.
This is a high-impact, greenfield role where you’ll define architecture, set engineering standards, and build a critical system from the ground up.
The Role
You’ll take ownership of designing and delivering a core backend financial subsystem, focused on accuracy, scalability, and compliance.
Operating as a senior technical leader, you’ll work closely with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to turn complex financial requirements into robust, production-grade systems.
This is a hands-on Staff IC role with significant influence over architecture, quality, and engineering practices.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading the architecture and development of a greenfield backend system
- Building secure, scalable, and highly reliable financial infrastructure
- Designing systems with a strong focus on data integrity, auditability, and correctness
- Driving engineering best practices across testing, observability, and CI/CD
- Collaborating cross-functionally with Product, Finance, and other teams
- Acting as a technical authority, influencing system design and standards
- Mentoring engineers and raising the bar across the wider team
What They’re Looking For
- 8+ years of backend engineering experience, including time at Staff level or equivalent
- Strong expertise in backend development (e.g. Go or similar languages)
- Proven experience building and operating high-scale, production systems
- Strong system design skills with the ability to balance speed vs scalability
- Experience working with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD)
- Ability to influence teams and drive technical direction across domains
Nice to have:
- Experience with financial systems, accounting, or ledger-based products
- Exposure to high-integrity systems requiring compliance and auditability
- Experience working across polyglot environments
