Fall back in love with your job again this Valentines

Sometimes it’s difficult to stay positive about your role, or to remember what it was that you loved about it in the first place. You can often feel deflated at work, so it’s important to check in and remind yourself why you applied, and what better day to do that on the day of love?

Here are 10 tips to help improve your relationship with your job and work!

1. Organise regular social events outside of work – Unwind and get to know others without necessarily talking about work-related things.

2. Exercise in the middle of the day – Whether that’s going to the gym or going for a walk, it’s a good idea to get some fresh air and get away from your desk and help break up your day.

3. Start a book club – This firstly gives you a book to read in your spare time, but also allows you to form opinions and talk to other colleagues about a mutual subject.

4. Set new goals – Doing the same things day in day out can become mundane, so review your work and where you want to go with it. Setting yourself higher goals could lead to huge success in the long run, as well as opening up new opportunities.

5. Bring your pet to work – Being weary of allergies, there’s nothing better than animal therapy to help you destress!

6. Celebrate birthdays, milestones and special days – Get colleagues a birthday cake and make sure you acknowledge them. Do fun activities around holidays to create a buzz around the office so days don’t always feel the same.

7. Address the root of the problem – If you’re facing problems at work, it’s important to actually understand the cause of it as opposed to skirting around it. Small issues that don’t get resolved will escalate leaving you feeling unhappy.

8. Join in with outside work activities – Perhaps suggest getting in a yoga teacher or arranging a sports team. This could bring you closer to others in the workplace who you may not have worked with previously. It will also increase your amount of physical activity which is another good way to unwind.

9. Make ‘to-do’ lists every day – This can really help break down large tasks into much more manageable, smaller ones. Before you know it, you’ll have ticked off all the small tasks which amount in a large project that may otherwise have felt daunting.

10. Get a new job! – Sometimes, no matter how hard you try, the job just isn’t right, and that’s ok! Don’t be afraid to change if it’s necessary.
